Classroom Activities

Write About a Horrible Person (Dahl-style)

Using Dahl's style from the opening chapters, pupils describe a fictional horrible person they have invented. They should focus on physical description that reflects the person's inner character — but MUST use fictional characters, not real people.

Design the Upside-Down Room

Pupils draw the Twits' room with all the furniture glued to the ceiling. Labels should explain what the Muggle-Wumps used as glue and how they got the furniture up there.

The Twits' Prank Diary

Pupils write a diary entry from Mr or Mrs Twit planning their next horrible prank on their partner. Encourage very specific, inventive nastiness in keeping with the book's comic tone.

Assessment Questions (KS2)

  1. What does Mr Twit keep in his beard?
  2. What do the Muggle-Wumps do to the Twits' house?
  3. What are 'The Shrinks'?
