Charlotte's Web by E.B. White.
Charlotte's Web (1952) by E.B. White is one of the most beloved American children's novels. It tells the story of a pig named Wilbur and his friendship with Charlotte the spider.
Wilbur is a runt piglet on the Arable farm in rural America. He is saved from being killed as a runt by the farmer's daughter Fern, who raises him as a pet. He is later sold to her uncle's farm — Homer Zuckerman's — where he meets Charlotte, a grey spider who lives in the barn.
Wilbur discovers he is being fattened for slaughter. Charlotte decides she will save him. She weaves words into her web above Wilbur's pen: first SOME PIG, then TERRIFIC, then RADIANT, then HUMBLE. The words cause a sensation — people come from miles around to see the miraculous spider web. Wilbur wins a special prize at the County Fair.
Charlotte dies at the fair shortly after Wilbur wins his prize — she was already ill and old. Her egg sac is brought back to the farm. In the spring, her babies hatch and most fly away, but three stay and become Wilbur's new friends. Wilbur never forgets Charlotte — the best friend he ever had.
